Last night at the excellent, underattended show headlined by German techno deity Roman Flügel at Re-bar, former Stranger music intern Chris Aldrich (aka Ctrl_Alt_Dlt, who did a stellar opening joint DJ set with Tyler Morrison) was raving to me about the psychedelic-techno brilliance of Romanian DJ/producer Rrose. (Seattle DJ Chloe Harris also recently hailed Rrose's prowess on the decks.)
Chris followed up that conversation with this link to a mix Rrose recorded last year [see tracklist after the jump]. Aldrich was right: This is a classic case of a DJ gradually building a set to a revelatory climax (then a proper comedown coda; very thoughtful), with dozens of little epiphanies popping off along the way. The shit going down around 44 minutes—Jeff Mills segueing into Silent Servant, I believe—especially deserves worship. Seamlessly working 32 tracks into 53 minutes is no joke, either. The trick now is getting back to the reality of my grind. {{{#firstworldproblems}}}
Aldrich also mentioned that he's trying to book Rrose for his SpaceRock Saturdays monthly event at Electric Tea Garden in July. This needs to happen.
